Sunday, 3rd April
A bus took my class to the Salzburg airport from where we started our journey to London. We landed at Gatwick, England’s second biggest airport. After our arrival we were taken on a sightseeing tour by bus. We passed all the famous sights like Big Ben, Piccadilly Circus, London Bridge, the London Eye and many more. Rather tired we were met by our host families in Welling, where we spent the rest of the day.
Monday, 4th April
In the morning we had to go to a language school. We had to take the bus on our own, which was a bit difficult until we found out where to get off. But we got used to it very fast.
Our first task at school was to interview three different people in a park near our school which was quite informative because we learned about the history of the park. At lunchtime we had typical English sandwiches and vinegar crisps, before we visited the Royal Observatory where we saw the Prime Meridian. After this we made a boat trip on the River Thames from where we had an excellent view on the architecture on the bank. Later we walked to Trafalgar Square to buy ´I ♥ London´ – jumpers. This was our second day in London.
Tuesday, 5th April
After some problems finding school and with 15 minutes behind time we finally arrived at our school. We prepared some questions for a social worker, who gave us some insight about his job. It was really interesting to see what his work is all about and what kind of problems he has to deal with. After our daily lunchtime with more or less good sandwiches we took the train to the Globe Theatre. As we had some time left we managed to get some free time to discover our surroundings but as usual we ended up getting something to eat. An hour later our tour through the Globe Theatre started. Our leader told us about the original theatre and how much tickets for a performance cost. We learned that the ancient theatre had burned down but that no one was hurt although there were just a few exits. Thanks to a lot of people, who donated money, it was possible to rebuild the theatre. Our tour ended with a short walk through the gift shop. On the way to our host families we stepped by Paul’s cathedral.
After dinner most of our group met at the cinema.
Wednesday, 6th April
Like every day we met at our school. This time it was a police man, who we asked some questions to. He told us about his work and about the main crimes like drug addiction or robberies. At the end of his presentation he showed us his equipment, which we took some funny photos of. Later that day we went to Harrod´s where we got some time for shopping.
Then we went to Hyde Park. It was a beautiful day, so we enjoyed some time sitting in the grass. At this point of the day we got free time, that’s why we went on with our shopping tour to Oxford Street. After this we went home to our families.
Thursday, 7th April
We visited a theatre where the people act just for fun and they told us some details about what their work in the theatre looks like and how they can manage to have the right light and where the actors change their outfits. Then we walked around a lot and visited China Town, Carnaby Street and Covent Garden.
In the evening we were in the Lyceum Theatre and watched “Lion King“. The performance was very good and we all were very impressed.
Friday, 8th April
Today we had some free time in the morning but we had to use it to find the way to the London Dungeon or to Madame Tussaud’s. At 2 o’clock we made a “journey” through the Dungeon or we visited Madame Tussaud’s. We were very impressed by what we had seen because it was a bit frightening and scary. It lasted at least one and a half hour.
In the evening we went to Europe’s biggest shopping centre called “Bluewater”, where we spent our time running around most of the time because it is so big. It took us four hours just to walk about a third of the whole centre. But we girls were very happy to find a last chance to go shopping and buy something for our families and friends at home.
Saturday, 9th April
We got up at 3 o’clock and went to the meeting point at 4 o’clock, where we got on the bus and went to the airport. Some of us were sleeping the whole time, they just woke up to get off the bus and get onto the plane. When we were back in Salzburg we got into the next bus and went home. I think all of us were at least a bit happy to be at home again. All in all it was a very nice trip and we just can recommend it to others.
