From the 18th to the 25th of May, 24 students of our school from forms 7ABC, supervised by our teachers Mr. Michlmayr and Mrs. Kraml, went to London.
We all stayed at different host families, who were very kind and hospitable to us. Our tour was planned out very well. Although this school trip lasted only for seven days we had a lot of free time and saw the whole city and most of the famous sights, for example the Tower with Tower Bridge nearby, the London Eye, the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, St. Paul’s Cathedral and some of us even the Wembley Stadium.
But London isn't just amazing because of the sights; it is also famous for shopping. Oxford Street, which is 4 kilometers long and Harrods are only two of the places those of us roamed when they wanted to spend their money on clothes not available in Steyr and its surroundings. Furthermore Camden Town is also an ingenious shopping option. The street markets there are a major tourist attraction at weekends, selling goods of all types including fashion, lifestyle, books, food, junk/antiques and more bizarre items. Unfortunately, we did not see any celebrities who the place is also famous for.
But on our way back to the centre of London we passed Madame Tussauds. There, out of the blue, we met the Austrian comedian, actor and writer Michael Niavarani who we had a short chat with.
Although London - just like England in general - is notorious for bad weather, it was brilliant throughout our week. There wasn’t any rain and we had temperatures up to 29 degrees – Celsius, of course, not Fahrenheit.
Some local people agreed that this week probably had been the hottest in the whole year. From Monday to Thursday we had tuition at one of the local language schools in Greenwich. Our teachers, Matthew and Andrew, who are actors in first place, were very nice persons and played a lot of funny games with us to improve our command of English. On Tuesday we saw an amazing performance at the Dominion Theatre. The musical “We Will Rock You”, whose plot is based on songs by the famous rock group “Queen” was a mind-blowing show, and the actors were really fantastic.
London is a very impressive, busy and beautiful city and you never get bored, because there is so much to see and to do. These seven days were a great experience for all of us and most of us are looking forward to seeing London again.
